Coinbase Expands ‘Everything Exchange’ Vision to Canada with Unified Trading Platform

Coinbase Canada is bringing its ambitious multi-asset platform—combining crypto, stocks, ETFs, and prediction markets—to Canadian users, marking the next phase of growth after becoming the country's first registered international crypto exchange in 2024.

The Everything Exchange Moves North

Coinbase is advancing its vision for a unified financial platform in Canada, with plans to bring its “Everything Exchange” to Canadian users in the coming months. According to Coinbase, as reported by BNN Bloomberg, the platform aims to consolidate cryptocurrency trading, traditional equities, exchange-traded funds, and prediction markets into a single application. Eric Richmond, CEO of Coinbase Canada, described the initiative as the natural evolution of the company’s Canadian presence, positioning it as a comprehensive financial destination rather than simply a crypto exchange.

The concept leverages blockchain technology to address longstanding inefficiencies in traditional finance. By operating on distributed ledger infrastructure, the platform promises 24/7 market access and near-instantaneous settlement times—features that remain unavailable through conventional brokerages and banking systems, which typically operate within defined business hours and involve multi-day settlement delays.

Tokenized Stocks and Market Expansion

A cornerstone of Coinbase’s Canadian rollout involves tokenized stocks—blockchain-recorded representations of real company shares that settle instantly and trade continuously. The company plans to introduce tokenized stock offerings to non-U.S. users, including Canadians, this month, with dividend rights fully preserved. This builds on momentum from the U.S. market, where Coinbase launched stock and ETF trading to eligible customers in February 2026.

The American platform already offers access to prediction markets following the January launch through Kalshi, a federally regulated operator valued at $22 billion. Coinbase’s expansion roadmap includes bringing nearly 10,000 stocks and exchange-traded funds onto its unified platform, fundamentally reshaping how retail investors access diversified holdings.

Competitive Positioning and Regulatory Path

When discussing competition from traditional Canadian brokerages and platforms like Robinhood, Richmond emphasized that consumer expectations have shifted. Investors increasingly recognize constraints in conventional finance—restricted trading hours, settlement delays, and product access limited to high-net-worth individuals. Rather than viewing this as zero-sum competition, Richmond suggested that platform proliferation benefits all participants by expanding the overall market.

Coinbase has cultivated a regulatory partnership in Canada since becoming the first international crypto exchange registered in the country in April 2024. As regulators continue shaping the crypto framework, the Bank of Canada is expected to finalize stablecoin regulations in 2027—a development that could unlock further infrastructure innovation and platform capabilities across the ecosystem.

Why it matters: Coinbase’s expansion demonstrates how major platforms are evolving into full-service financial venues, potentially reshaping institutional and retail access to crypto and tokenized assets within North America.
