The centerpiece allows Coinbase Business users to accept USDC stablecoin payments initiated directly by autonomous AI agents, powered by the x402 payment standard that Coinbase first deployed in May 2025. This technical framework enables stablecoin payments transmitted over HTTP protocols, creating a standardized bridge between AI systems, applications, and programming interfaces that was previously absent from the ecosystem.
Alongside payment acceptance, Coinbase released complementary capabilities. The company introduced AI-enabled trading tools allowing users to monitor open positions, access live market data, and automatically execute trades when user-defined conditions are satisfied. A new software development kit targets developers constructing applications where AI agents function as autonomous decision-makers and transaction operators.
