Processing delays plague the troubled exchange as users face freeze notices and pending transactions following its announced wind-down timeline.

Withdrawal Bottlenecks Emerge Following Shutdown News

BitMart users attempting to exit the platform are encountering significant obstacles as the exchange processes its planned shutdown. According to blockchain analytics firm Lookonchain, withdrawal activity has slowed considerably, with only 58 wallet addresses transferring roughly $805,000 over a 24-hour period. More troublingly, no withdrawal transactions processed during an eight-hour monitoring interval, suggesting potential systemic delays in transaction processing.

Social media complaints from customers paint a picture of dysfunction. Several users documented receiving withdrawal confirmations for transactions that never settled on-chain, while their accounts simultaneously displayed “on-chain withdrawal freeze” notifications. Another customer reported a modest $30 test withdrawal remaining stuck in pending status for more than 30 minutes. While these accounts remain individually unverified, they collectively indicate widespread friction in the withdrawal pipeline.

Asset Exodus and Token Collapse

BitMart’s financial position has deteriorated sharply. Wallets identified by blockchain tracking platform Arkham as belonging to BitMart held approximately $69 million in digital assets on Monday, down substantially from roughly $102 million just weeks prior on July 6. The exchange’s own BMX token has experienced catastrophic decline, trading near $0.057 and falling approximately 81.5% in the previous week following public disclosure of the shutdown plan.

Shutdown Schedule and Enhanced Verification

The exchange’s management laid out a phased shutdown timeline that immediately halts new account registrations and deposits, while restricting fresh spot and derivatives trading positions. All trading functionality is scheduled to cease on August 26, 2026, with complete platform shutdown expected by January 31, 2027.

BitMart officials have maintained that withdrawals technically remain available, though they’ve signaled substantially increased friction through expanded verification procedures. The exchange indicated it would conduct heightened reviews of user identities, login devices, withdrawal destinations, trading activity patterns, and source-of-funds documentation. Additionally, customers may be required to provide formal identification, address verification, and proof of ownership for receiving wallet addresses.

The closure has catalyzed industry discussion about consolidation opportunities among crypto exchanges. Changpeng Zhao, Binance’s co-founder, characterized centralized exchange acquisitions as substantially more complex than other business acquisitions, particularly due to inherited security risks including potential backdoors embedded by previous development teams. Despite these complications, Zhao suggested acquisitions remain feasible, though they demand significantly enhanced due diligence.

BitMart’s inability to facilitate swift, frictionless withdrawals during its wind-down tests the broader exchange sector’s readiness for orderly transitions and may further shape regulatory approaches to centralized platforms.
