S&P Awards BlackRock’s Tokenized Reserve Fund Its Highest Stability Rating
S&P Global Ratings has assigned its top principal stability fund rating to BlackRock's new tokenized money market fund, signaling confidence in the fund's design and risk management as institutional adoption of tokenized finance accelerates.
BlackRock Fund Earns Highest S&P Rating
S&P Global Ratings has granted its highest principal stability fund rating to BlackRock’s newly launched tokenized money market vehicle, according to S&P Global Ratings. The ratings provider awarded an “AAAm” rating to the BlackRock Daily Reinvestment Stablecoin Reserve Vehicle (BRSRV), affirming the fund’s capacity to maintain a stable net asset value. S&P’s analysis highlighted the strength of the fund’s underlying investments, the creditworthiness of its counterparties, and what the ratings provider characterized as the absence of weaknesses in BlackRock Advisors’ management practices, risk management protocols, and compliance operations.
Operational Resilience Through Tokenization
Beyond traditional fund metrics, S&P specifically commended the fund’s tokenization infrastructure as operationally resilient, noting that its technical design incorporates safeguards intended to address cyber risks, smart contract vulnerabilities, and blockchain network stability concerns. The fund employs a permissioned architecture that limits transactions to approved wallet addresses, adding an additional security layer. The BRSRV structure is designed to serve as an eligible reserve asset for payment stablecoin issuers operating under the GENIUS Act framework. Its portfolio will consist of cash holdings, short-term US Treasury securities with maturities not exceeding 93 days, and overnight repurchase agreements collateralized by Treasury instruments. The fund’s weighted average maturity will remain at or below 60 days, with a weighted average life capped at 120 days, positioning it as an ultra-conservative financial instrument.
Broader Stablecoin Landscape Shows Mixed Health
S&P’s assessment of BlackRock’s fund comes as the ratings provider separately updated its broader evaluation of stablecoin stability, according to S&P Global Ratings. Of the 11 stablecoins S&P currently monitors, six demonstrate an “adequate” or stronger ability to maintain their currency pegs. The assessments reveal significant disparities in the sector: four stablecoins including EURC, USDC, USDG, and USDP earned “strong” ratings, while two others including GUSD and EURCV received “adequate” marks. However, three stablecoins including USDT, TUSD, and USDe received “weak” ratings, with USDT’s assessment worsening to this level in November 2025. The ratings framework, which S&P launched in December 2023, evaluates stablecoins across multiple dimensions including asset quality, liquidity, governance structures, redemption mechanisms, legal safeguards, technology dependencies, and operational track record. Ratings span from “very strong” to “weak.”
