Cardano and Midnight Reach Japanese Market Through Sony Exchange

The Cardano ecosystem has achieved a significant regulatory milestone, with both Cardano’s ADA token and Midnight’s privacy-focused NIGHT token now available for trading on S.BLOX, a cryptocurrency exchange owned by Sony Group Corporation. According to S.BLOX, both listings launched on August 24, marking a major breakthrough for these projects in Japan’s highly regulated digital asset market. S.BLOX, which was acquired by Sony On-Chain Technologies Inc. (a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sony Group Corporation) in August 2023, is running promotional campaigns to encourage adoption. Users can earn up to 10,000 yen in ADA or up to 14,000 yen in NIGHT through the exchange’s welcome programs.

Privacy Infrastructure Clears Regulatory Hurdles

NIGHT’s listing holds exceptional significance within cryptocurrency. S.BLOX announced that this marks the first time a privacy-focused token or privacy-preserving infrastructure has traded on the platform. The timing amplifies this achievement—Midnight’s privacy-focused sidechain officially went live in March 2026, with NIGHT launching in December 2025, making this Japanese listing remarkably swift for such a recent project.

Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson highlighted the regulatory complexity behind these achievements in a recent livestream. He explained that Japan’s Financial Services Agency (JFSA) conducts an “incredibly rigorous” approval process for cryptocurrency listings, with relatively few tokens gaining access to Japanese exchanges. The fact that NIGHT qualified for listing so soon after launch demonstrates the quality of Midnight’s technical standards and regulatory compliance. Hoskinson called the milestone “monumental,” underscoring that this represents the first time privacy-preserving infrastructure gained approval on the platform.

Institutional Confidence in Regulated Crypto Markets

Sony’s continued backing of S.BLOX signals shifting corporate attitudes toward carefully-vetted cryptocurrency projects. A major technology corporation operating a regulated crypto exchange and approving privacy-focused assets suggests mainstream institutional confidence is growing in blockchain infrastructure—at least when projects demonstrate strong regulatory positioning and technical maturity. This is particularly meaningful in Japan, where crypto oversight ranks among the world’s most intensive.

These listings establish a potential regulatory pathway for privacy-focused projects seeking approval in other developed markets. They also validate that privacy technology can coexist with rigorous regulatory frameworks—a critical question as blockchain matures toward mainstream institutional adoption. The achievement demonstrates that innovation and compliance are not mutually exclusive, even in markets known for strict oversight.
