Strive Becomes Fifth-Largest Corporate Bitcoin Holder With $143M Purchase
Publicly traded asset manager Strive acquired 1,800 Bitcoin for $143 million, joining the ranks of the world's largest corporate digital asset holders as institutional buying surges on market recovery.
Strive, a publicly traded asset management and Bitcoin treasury company, has significantly accelerated its digital asset accumulation, purchasing 1,800 Bitcoin for approximately $143 million between August 24 and August 28. The transaction, which averaged $79,431 per Bitcoin when including fees and expenses, was confirmed by CEO Matt Cole on Monday.
This purchase elevated Strive’s total Bitcoin holdings to 23,156 coins, representing a substantial jump from the 21,356 BTC it held just one week prior. The aggressive buying pace—adding more than 8.4% to its Bitcoin portfolio within five business days, according to Adam Livingston, an adviser to Saturn Credit—has propelled Strive into an exclusive club of major corporate Bitcoin holders.
Rising to the Top Five
The acquisition represents a significant milestone for the publicly traded company, as Strive has now become the fifth-largest corporate holder of Bitcoin among publicly traded entities. The ranking reflects a surge past Bullish, a major crypto exchange and digital asset infrastructure player, demonstrating the competitive dynamics among institutional Bitcoin accumulators.
Strive’s aggressive posture reflects a broader trend in its corporate treasury strategy. Just the previous week, the company had purchased 1,110 Bitcoin for roughly $81.5 million, paying an average price of $73,409 per coin. This consecutive week of large acquisitions signals an intentional acceleration of digital asset positioning, potentially responding to favorable market conditions and strategic opportunities.
Treasury Policy Shift Sparks Market Recovery
The timing of Strive’s purchases aligns with a major catalyst in financial markets. Beginning August 19, the US Treasury Department announced its intention to increase the scale of certain long-term bond buyback programs. This policy announcement contributed to lower Treasury yields and sparked a broad recovery in risk assets. Bitcoin emerged as a particular beneficiary, rallying more than 23% from prior levels to break above $81,000, creating an environment that motivated substantial institutional accumulation.
Major Players Resume Offensive Posture
Strive’s buying spree is matched by activity from even larger corporate Bitcoin holders. According to Strive’s announcement, Strategy, the world’s largest publicly traded corporate Bitcoin holder under Michael Saylor’s leadership, announced on Monday that it had resumed Bitcoin purchases for the first time since June. The company acquired 4,603 Bitcoin at an average price of $80,318, a move that increased its holdings back above 845,000 BTC following four sales that occurred between May and the most recent purchasing halt.
These coordinated purchases by two of the largest corporate Bitcoin holders reflect renewed institutional optimism about digital assets. As major publicly traded companies expand their Bitcoin exposure, they reinforce a narrative of growing mainstream acceptance and validate digital assets as legitimate components of corporate treasury strategies, potentially encouraging other institutional investors to follow suit.
Institutional-scale Bitcoin accumulation by top-tier corporate holders signals strengthening confidence in digital assets, which could accelerate broader institutional adoption across the cryptocurrency ecosystem.
