Gram Wallet Becomes Telegram’s Transaction Layer

Telegram has rolled out its native Gram wallet as the default cryptocurrency option in user settings, positioning the self-custodial service as the primary gateway for everyday crypto transactions within the messaging platform. The wallet enables users to transfer value between contacts, make payments for services, and purchase Telegram Collectibles including digital gifts, usernames, and phone numbers. By establishing a self-custodial solution directly integrated into the core app experience, Telegram is giving users direct control over their holdings while maintaining simplicity and accessibility.

Founder Pavel Durov first previewed the Gram wallet initiative in July, announcing plans to distribute the service across Telegram’s user base of over one billion accounts. According to Telegram’s announcement shared with Cointelegraph, the rollout has proceeded gradually over recent weeks, making the wallet progressively available to users globally.

Walt Emerges as Comprehensive Crypto and Financial Platform

The rebrand from Wallet in Telegram to Walt reflects the service’s transformation into a sophisticated, multichain financial ecosystem. Walt will no longer function as Telegram’s default wallet, instead becoming accessible through the app’s search feature while focusing on advanced cryptocurrency and investment services.

Walt supports deposits, holdings, and trading across more than 300 cryptographic assets distributed across four separate blockchains, with spot trading available in over 200 assets. The platform extends beyond cryptocurrency into tokenized representations of stocks, exchange-traded funds, and precious metals—more than 100 products in total. Walt also offers perpetual futures contracts, leveraged derivatives without expiration dates, across more than 70 assets including cryptocurrencies, commodities, and energy products.

Beyond trading, Walt provides yield generation services and broader access to real-world asset exposure, reflecting its evolution from a simple Gram holder into a full-service financial platform operating within Telegram’s ecosystem. The platform’s expansion occurred over four years, according to Andrew Rogozov, founder and CEO of The Open Platform and Walt.

Two Services, One Ecosystem

The dual-wallet strategy maintains connectivity between both services. Users can make multichain deposits from Walt directly into their Gram wallet, bridging the simplified payment layer with the advanced trading environment. This architecture allows Telegram to serve both casual users seeking simple peer-to-peer transactions and sophisticated traders requiring institutional-grade tools—all within a single messaging application.

For the broader crypto market, Telegram’s infrastructure expansion matters because it represents a pathway to mainstream adoption, introducing billions of potential users to both accessible payment solutions and professional-grade crypto trading capabilities within a single platform.
