Record Earnings Despite Crypto Revenue Decline

Online brokerage Robinhood has delivered record financial performance for the second quarter of 2026, even as its cryptocurrency transaction revenue experienced a significant downturn. According to the company’s earnings announcement, overall revenue reached $1.31 billion, reflecting a 32% year-over-year increase, while net income surged 48% to $573 million. Yet cryptocurrency transaction revenue fell sharply to $100 million from approximately $160 million a year earlier—a 38% decline that underscores recent headwinds in digital asset trading.

Crypto Volume Declines Offset by Broader Business Growth

Despite the weakness in cryptocurrency revenue, Robinhood processed $40 billion in crypto notional trading volume during the quarter. The company’s core Robinhood app generated $18 billion of that volume, down 35% from the prior year, while Bitstamp—the crypto exchange acquired in June 2025—contributed $22 billion. Other business segments more than compensated for the crypto decline. Transaction-based revenue climbed 44% to $776 million, event contract revenue surged more than tenfold to $156 million, options revenue increased 29% to $342 million, and equities revenue jumped 95% to $129 million.

Aggressive Expansion Into Tokenization and Blockchain Infrastructure

Rather than retreating from digital assets, Robinhood accelerated its crypto infrastructure strategy during the period. The company completed its acquisition of WonderFi, a Canadian crypto platform, expanding its offerings beyond traditional crypto trading. Following the quarter’s close, Robinhood launched the public mainnet of Robinhood Chain, its blockchain network, which quickly accumulated $348 million in total value locked, alongside over $500 million in stablecoins and more than $1 billion in bridged assets. Simultaneously, the company rolled out tokenized US stocks to eligible users in more than 120 countries and introduced Robinhood Earn, its first decentralized lending product. These moves signal a strategic transition toward Web3 infrastructure rather than reliance on spot trading volume.

Strong Deposit Growth and User Expansion

Robinhood reported record net deposits of $21.7 billion during the quarter. Total platform assets grew 32% year-over-year to $369 billion, while funded customers expanded 7% to 28.4 million. Adjusted EBITDA rose 35% to $741 million, signaling operational efficiency gains despite rising operating expenses.

Robinhood’s ability to post record earnings while crypto revenue fell 38% demonstrates that tokenization and blockchain infrastructure may be opening new value streams that transcend volatile spot trading cycles—a potentially bullish signal for institutional adoption of crypto rails and on-chain finance.
