World Chain Launches Parallel Block Verification to Scale Without Hardware Upgrades
Layer-2 network becomes first production blockchain to deploy streamed EIP-7928, targeting higher throughput without requiring validator hardware upgrades.
World Chain, a layer-2 blockchain, is deploying streamed EIP-7928 block access lists on its mainnet beginning August 17, becoming the first production blockchain to implement this scaling technology. The deployment addresses a persistent challenge in blockchain development: increasing transaction throughput without forcing validators to invest in more powerful hardware.
Parallel Verification Enables Higher Throughput
The innovation centers on how validators process transactions. Conventionally, validators verify each transaction sequentially after a block is completed. World Chain’s implementation changes this by recording the blockchain state that each transaction reads and writes, enabling independent transactions to be verified simultaneously across multiple CPU cores.
According to World Chain, the system streams full block access lists every 200 milliseconds through its flashblock architecture. Rather than waiting for blocks to be fully assembled, validators can begin verifying transactions as the block-building process unfolds. This approach reduces validation latency and distributes verification work continuously throughout block construction, allowing the network to process more transactions without creating infrastructure bottlenecks.
Maintaining Decentralization While Scaling
World Chain targets throughput of up to one gigagas per second while keeping validator hardware requirements effectively unchanged. Internal testing on World Chain test networks showed that validation latency remained stable even as throughput increased substantially, all achieved using standard cloud computing resources. This suggests that blockchain scalability doesn’t require either extreme hardware upgrades or centralization through increased validator barriers.
World Chain’s deployment strategy diverges from Ethereum’s planned approach. While Ethereum expects to implement EIP-7928 through a hard fork in a future upgrade, World Chain is deploying the feature via a runtime flag. This allows client operators to upgrade their software before August 17 without requiring a coordinated network-wide upgrade—a more flexible approach to rolling out new functionality.
Ecosystem and Real-World Applications
World Chain operates as part of the Superchain ecosystem, built on the OP Stack and secured by Ethereum’s consensus layer. The network integrates with the World protocol and supports applications including stablecoin payments, international remittances, and commerce. It incorporates World ID’s proof-of-human verification system and is accessible through compatible wallets, including World App.
This deployment demonstrates a practical pathway to blockchain scalability that prioritizes preserving accessibility for independent validators—a critical requirement for maintaining decentralized networks. For the broader crypto market, this signals that throughput and decentralization are not inherently opposed.
