Blockchain.com has completed a significant regulatory milestone by securing full authorization to provide cryptocurrency custody and exchange services in the Cayman Islands, further solidifying the company’s position as a globally-compliant platform.

Full Licensing Approval Finalizes Caribbean Expansion

The cryptocurrency services platform has obtained a virtual asset service provider license from the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority, effective July 22, 2026, according to Blockchain.com’s announcement reviewed by Cointelegraph. The license represents the conclusion of a regulatory approval process initiated by conditional authorization in December 2025. The company had already maintained a VASP registration in the Cayman Islands since May 2022, demonstrating an established operational presence well before achieving full licensure. This progression from registration status to formal licensing underscores both the regulator’s confidence in the company’s compliance framework and Blockchain.com’s commitment to meeting stringent regulatory standards throughout an extended evaluation period.

Comprehensive Service Authorization Across Multiple Financial Functions

The Cayman Islands license grants Blockchain.com authorization to provide multiple complementary services within the territory. The platform can now offer regulated cryptocurrency custody—enabling both institutional and individual customers to maintain secure digital asset holdings with professional oversight. The license also permits cryptocurrency-to-fiat currency conversion services, allowing users to transition between digital assets and traditional money, alongside cryptocurrency-to-cryptocurrency exchange capabilities. This bundled authorization structure allows Blockchain.com to serve customers through an integrated ecosystem within a single regulated framework, streamlining operations while ensuring compliance with local regulatory protections and standards.

Building a Multi-Jurisdictional Regulatory Presence

The Cayman Islands approval forms a key component of Blockchain.com’s strategy to establish comprehensive regulatory coverage across major global financial hubs. The company has simultaneously secured Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation compliance in Europe, granting authorization across European Union member states under the EU’s foundational digital asset regulatory framework. Blockchain.com has also registered with the United Kingdom’s Financial Conduct Authority, securing compliance in a major post-Brexit financial center. Together, these jurisdictional authorizations create a robust regulatory network spanning the Caribbean, Europe, and the United Kingdom.

Co-CEO Lane Kasselman emphasized the company’s regulatory philosophy, stating that the company believes strong regulation is essential to long-term digital asset development, and that these approvals strengthen the company’s ability to serve customers across multiple regions.

As institutional capital continues flowing into digital assets, regulated custody infrastructure from established platforms demonstrates the crypto industry’s maturation into an institutional-grade ecosystem capable of supporting large-scale investment participation.
