Tony Edward: The Steady Signal in a Noisy Industry
Crypto media has a credibility problem, and most of it is self-inflicted — sensationalism dressed up as analysis. Tony Edward — @thinkingcrypto — built the opposite on purpose. Through the Thinking Crypto Podcast, he turned “boring, accurate, and early” into a platform of ~142,000 followers on X and nearly 200,000 on YouTube. On a wall full of loud voices, he earns his place by being the calm one who’s usually right.
Queens basements to the news desk
Edward was born in Guyana and came to the United States around age eight, growing up in Queens after his family started out in a cramped basement apartment while his parents worked double shifts. That immigrant experience — economic instability, then opportunity earned the hard way — is exactly why sound money and financial tools that reach people beyond traditional banking aren’t an abstraction to him.
He was a tech kid early: the first in his 1998 high-school class to show people this new search engine called Google, taking computers apart, building websites. That turned into 14+ years in digital marketing, where SEO became his sharpest skill — enough that he taught Search Marketing and Reputation Management as an adjunct at NYU. He later worked organic growth at the exchange OKX (formerly OKCoin), which gave him a real operator’s view of trading, security and regulation before he ever pointed a camera at himself.
Building Thinking Crypto
Edward started investing in 2016, recognising blockchain as the next layer of the internet — his generation’s dot-com boom, the one he’d been too young to catch the first time. In September 2017 he launched the Thinking Crypto channel and podcast to fill the gap he kept seeing: too much hype, not enough reliable education.
It became a daily desk with a guest list most outlets can’t touch — SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce, Tim Draper, Abra’s Bill Barhydt, executives from BlackRock, Galaxy, Ripple and Coinbase’s Base, and members of Congress. The coverage runs across Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP, Solana, stablecoins, tokenisation, CBDCs, and the regulatory fights that actually decide this market — the Clarity Act, market structure, institutional adoption. By 2024 he’d gone full-time on it.
The XRP angle: access, not cheerleading
Edward isn’t an XRP maximalist and doesn’t pretend to be — and that’s the point. He covers XRP as part of the real story: Ripple’s legal and regulatory arc, the ISO-20022 and tokenisation moves at DTCC, BlackRock and BNY, stablecoin expansion, and the machinery of institutional adoption. When the people making those decisions come on his show, holders get the “why” behind the headline instead of another price candle.
He’s also refreshingly grounded: he’s noted the limits of extreme bearish calls in a world where governments and institutions have every incentive to prevent a systemic collapse, and he keeps a clear boundary around the political optics that can turn a splashy crypto deal into a liability. That’s the read of someone who has watched the pattern for years — which is exactly the Terminalcraft frame.
The book and the classroom
In 2024 he published (Re)Thinking Crypto: The Crash of FTX and the Rise of Safer, Stronger Digital Assets (Post Hill Press) — a post-FTX field guide to the token economy across finance, healthcare, real estate and insurance, framed as a user’s manual for the future of money. Educator first, always caveated: not financial advice, do your own research, only risk what you can afford to lose.
Why he’s on the wall
In a space built on narrative rotation and influencer excess, Edward built something durable by doing the unglamorous thing — understand the tech, document the real developments, get the decision-makers on the record, and skip the hype. Follow the liquidity; Tony Edward is one of the few who actually interviews the people moving it.
