The milestone was announced by the Solana Foundation’s vice president of technology, Jacob Creech, who emphasized the significance of entering what he called “a new era of 350ms” on social media. The reduction reflects the foundation’s commitment to continuous performance enhancement and positions the network firmly on its path toward a 200-millisecond target.
Phased Optimization Strategy
The Solana Foundation unveiled its comprehensive slot time reduction strategy in June, outlining an ambitious plan to compress the network’s confirmation timeline from 400 milliseconds down to 200 milliseconds. The 350-millisecond achievement represents the completion of the first phase in a four-step optimization program, with three additional 50-millisecond reductions already scheduled. Each subsequent reduction is designed to further decrease network latency and accelerate the finality of transactions processed on Solana’s blockchain.
The technical implementation of these improvements is being handled through Agave v4.2, a validator client developed by Anza. The initiative gained formal approval through SIMD-0525, a blockchain improvement proposal that was merged into the development pipeline in mid-May. Although the timeline for additional reductions remains tentative, the foundation has committed to activating each stage on the network’s mainnet within the Agave v4.2 framework.
