Visa Partners With Dunamu to Explore Stablecoin Payments and AI Commerce
Major payments giant Visa teams up with Korean blockchain firm Dunamu to develop stablecoin infrastructure and autonomous AI commerce, signaling institutional momentum toward digital asset integration.
Bridging Traditional Finance and Digital Assets
Visa has established a strategic partnership with Dunamu, the parent company of South Korean cryptocurrency exchange Upbit, to jointly develop cryptocurrency payment solutions and AI-powered commerce infrastructure. According to Dunamu’s announcement, the collaboration aims to merge Dunamu’s digital asset capabilities with Visa’s expansive global payments network. The partnership will focus on three core initiatives: deploying stablecoin-based payment systems, enabling cross-border remittance services, and building artificial intelligence-driven commerce platforms.
Stablecoin Exploration and Institutional Adoption
Central to the partnership is an evaluation of stablecoin payment and settlement infrastructure. The companies are reviewing multiple stablecoin projects, including Open Standard’s proposed OUSD—a dollar-backed stablecoin introduced in June. The OUSD initiative has attracted substantial institutional participation, with more than 140 organizations registered as participants, including Visa, Mastercard, Stripe, Coinbase, and BlackRock. Dunamu emphasized that OUSD remains one option among several stablecoin projects under consideration and that no specific stablecoin has been prioritized for the partnership. While Dunamu is exploring the OUSD ecosystem, its cryptocurrency exchange Upbit announced separately in July that it would not participate in OUSD issuance.
Autonomous Agents and the Future of Commerce
Beyond payment infrastructure, the partnership encompasses agentic commerce—an emerging model where AI agents autonomously identify products and services, then execute purchases and payments on users’ behalf. Visa and Dunamu plan to examine methods for integrating artificial intelligence capabilities with stablecoin settlement systems. Dunamu CEO Oh Kyung-seok highlighted the strategic importance of converging technologies, stating that artificial intelligence, stablecoins, and tokenization represent transformative trends reshaping financial operations and commerce. The alliance seeks to connect digital assets with traditional finance infrastructure in ways that scale across major markets.
The partnership between Visa and Dunamu demonstrates how leading institutions increasingly view blockchain-based currencies and digital assets as foundational components of next-generation financial infrastructure. By combining Visa’s payment network scale with Dunamu’s digital asset expertise, the collaboration positions itself to influence how cryptocurrencies integrate into mainstream commerce and payments. This development particularly reflects growing institutional confidence that stablecoins can function as bridges between decentralized and traditional finance systems. The initiative to develop AI-powered settlement mechanisms suggests that the crypto and fintech sectors are converging on solutions that prioritize both automation and institutional-grade infrastructure.
