Hyperliquid Enters Institutional Fold: Leading Crypto Players Now Share Regulated Index
Following a quarterly index rebalancing, Hyperliquid has earned placement in the Nasdaq CME Crypto Index alongside Bitcoin, XRP, and other established digital assets, reflecting growing institutional adoption of the emerging platform.
Hyperliquid Earns Institutional Validation Through Nasdaq CME Index Inclusion
The cryptocurrency market has reached another inflection point for mainstream adoption: Hyperliquid (HYPE), an emerging digital asset platform, now shares a regulated benchmark index with Bitcoin and XRP following an official quarterly rebalancing. The shift, documented through SEC filings for the Hashdex Nasdaq CME Crypto Index ETF, marks validation that a newer-generation platform can meet the institutional infrastructure requirements traditionally reserved for established cryptocurrency leaders.
Meeting Rigorous Institutional Standards
Hyperliquid’s entry into the Nasdaq CME Crypto Index reflects the platform’s successful demonstration of key institutional requirements. The asset satisfied exchange standards spanning market capitalization thresholds, trading liquidity benchmarks, and secure custody infrastructure—criteria designed to ensure only mature platforms gain exposure through regulated index products. Rather than representing a dilution of the index, HYPE’s inclusion demonstrates how the cryptocurrency sector continues generating new projects capable of attracting institutional-grade resources and compliance frameworks.
The timing reflects a broader evolution: as crypto market infrastructure solidifies, newer platforms with strong operational foundations can advance rapidly through institutional gatekeeping processes. Hyperliquid’s progression from emergence to index inclusion happened considerably faster than earlier-generation digital assets, suggesting baseline standards for institutional participation have significantly evolved.
Index Composition and Accelerating Institutional Flows
The updated index weights reveal how institutional portfolios are distributed across the digital asset landscape. Bitcoin maintains dominance at 74.36% of the benchmark, followed by Ethereum at 11.88%. Hyperliquid debuted with a 3.36% allocation, positioning itself alongside Solana’s 3.79% share as a meaningful portfolio component immediately upon inclusion.
XRP retained its institutional standing as the index’s third-largest holding with a 5.21% weighting, underscoring its sustained relevance within the regulated investment ecosystem. The remaining allocations—distributed among Cardano, Chainlink, Stellar, and Bitcoin Cash—each represent less than 1.5% of the benchmark.
The practical impact of Hyperliquid’s inclusion manifested through rapid spot-based ETF inflows. As of early September, three major financial institutions had accumulated substantial HYPE positions through index-tracking products: BlackRock’s IBYH fund held $236.10 million, Fidelity’s FHYP held $138.59 million, and 21Shares’ THYP commanded $86.85 million. Combined, these products amassed $344.31 million in net inflows, with approximately $461.54 million in total spot fund assets tracking HYPE—representing roughly 2.45% of the token’s market capitalization at that moment. Daily trading volumes in these spot funds averaged $14.72 million, with HYPE trading at $83.62 ahead of the rebalancing.
Hyperliquid’s ascent into this institutional benchmark signals the cryptocurrency market’s continued maturation and the emergence of competitive new platforms capable of earning institutional legitimacy alongside established assets.
