Seoul Police Successfully Dismantle Major XRP Investment Fraud Operation

South Korean law enforcement has successfully dismantled a sophisticated cryptocurrency investment scam that defrauded victims of 3.4 million XRP tokens, according to Yonhap News Agency. The criminal network orchestrated the scheme across multiple digital platforms, ultimately inflicting damages totaling approximately 12.3 billion won—roughly $8.55 million—across 71 affected investors.

The fraudulent operation centered on a counterfeit investment platform branded as Fxrpntwork.com, which commenced in October of the previous year. Perpetrators strategically leveraged YouTube as their primary customer acquisition channel, producing videos and supplementing them with blog posts and media coverage to attract potential investors. Their central pitch guaranteed capital preservation alongside consistent monthly returns between 1.5 and 1.8 percent—promises entirely without foundation.

Victims engaging with the platform followed a deceptive transaction sequence: purchasing XRP tokens through legitimate South Korean exchanges before transferring assets to overseas wallets controlled by the criminals. Upon transfer completion, the website vanished and operators disappeared with stolen capital. However, rapid intervention by South Korean authorities prevented successful criminal escape. Cyber investigators traced blockchain transaction chains and froze criminal wallets within three days of receiving the initial complaint, preventing any asset movement.

The investigation resulted in the arrest of the operation’s ringleader upon his return to South Korean territory. Two additional accomplices were detained while attempting to flee, with one already referred to prosecutors. A fourth member remains at large internationally, prompting authorities to issue an Interpol Red Notice. Seoul police announced a zero-tolerance enforcement policy toward cryptocurrency fraud and urged investors to scrutinize platforms offering guaranteed returns.

Bitcoin Spot ETFs Signal Institutional Momentum Recovery

The broader cryptocurrency market displayed mixed momentum as different asset classes experienced divergent institutional pressures. Bitcoin’s spot exchange-traded funds terminated a four-day decline streak, collectively attracting $32.11 million in net inflows during the latest trading cycle. BlackRock’s IBIT fund emerged as the primary institutional driver, independently directing $89.83 million into Bitcoin while competing spot ETF products continued recording outflows.

Ethereum’s recently launched Morgan Stanley ETF (MSSE) contributed additional institutional momentum, recording $14.30 million in daily inflows and establishing itself as the strongest-performing Ethereum-focused fund product. Current Bitcoin spot ETF holdings have accumulated to $77.46 billion in total assets under management, representing 6.08 percent of Bitcoin’s comprehensive market capitalization.

Altcoin Markets Reveal Whale Exit Patterns During Retail Surges

On-chain analysis conducted by Etherscan and Santiment unveiled concerning market manipulation patterns in recent altcoin price movements. Following Shiba Inu’s 40 percent price appreciation, available data demonstrated that large wallet holders systematically liquidated positions precisely when retail investor FOMO intensified, leaving smaller traders absorbing subsequent price declines. Santiment documented 52 daily transactions exceeding $100,000, reflecting the persistent extraction pattern wherein large holders capitalize on retail buying pressure to execute profitable exits.

Bitcoin continues consolidating within a trading range spanning $63,000 to $66,000, with Federal Reserve hawkish positioning and internal policy disagreements maintaining downward pressure on potential upside rallies.

Successful law enforcement recovery of stolen XRP highlights regulatory authorities’ growing effectiveness in combating cryptocurrency fraud.
