As X Money continues its rollout across the United States, Ripple’s engineering leadership is making a strategic pitch to Elon Musk to integrate RLUSD stablecoin into the platform as it develops its broader financial services offering.

RLUSD Integration Could Expand X Money’s Payment Capabilities

J. Ayo Akinyele, an engineering head at RippleX, publicly requested that Elon Musk add RLUSD support to X Money. In his outreach, Akinyele went further, suggesting that XRP adoption could follow if Musk decides to prioritize cryptocurrency integration. This pitch comes at a strategic moment as X Money launches its financial services infrastructure across the country, marking Musk’s latest move to transform X into an all-encompassing platform.

X Money is being positioned as a core component of Musk’s broader vision for an “everything app.” The service currently enables users to hold funds, execute real-time peer-to-peer transfers between accounts, and access an X-branded Visa debit card for everyday spending. The platform is powered by banking infrastructure from Cross River Bank and is being rolled out on an invite-only basis, initially reserved for paid subscribers who want early access to financial features.

Ripple’s Strategic Push for Payment Infrastructure Adoption

Ripple has consistently positioned RLUSD as a foundational asset for streamlining payment infrastructure. In June of this year, the company emphasized both RLUSD and XRP as viable options for X402-powered transactions, demonstrating its commitment to facilitating real-world payment use cases at scale. This positioning has been further reinforced through strategic partnerships with major financial institutions and platforms, including Mastercard, WebBank, and Gemini, which have collectively expanded RLUSD’s footprint in institutional payment corridors.

Akinyele’s public appeal to Musk represents a calculated effort to align RLUSD with one of the largest social platforms as it enters the financial services space. By advocating for cryptocurrency-enabled payments on X Money, Ripple is positioning its stablecoin as a natural fit for the ecosystem’s future development.

Cryptocurrency Integration Remains Uncertain Despite Growing Interest

While Akinyele’s pitch reflects confidence in RLUSD’s potential and alignment with X Money’s goals, the platform’s current trajectory suggests caution on near-term cryptocurrency adoption. The service has launched with an exclusive focus on traditional payments only, notably excluding even Dogecoin—a cryptocurrency that Musk has repeatedly championed publicly. This strategic decision suggests that cryptocurrency integration, while theoretically possible in X Money’s future roadmap, may not be an immediate development priority.

The timing of Ripple’s push is nonetheless noteworthy. As institutional adoption of stablecoins accelerates globally and payment platforms increasingly integrate digital assets, positioning RLUSD as a ready-made solution for X Money could prove strategically valuable should Musk decide to expand the platform’s cryptocurrency capabilities in coming months or years.

Akinyele’s appeal to Musk underscores Ripple’s broader strategy to position RLUSD as the preferred stablecoin for payments across multiple platforms and use cases, ranging from institutional payment corridors to consumer-facing applications.

If X Money were to integrate RLUSD and XRP, it could dramatically expand both assets’ utility and mainstream visibility within one of the internet’s largest platforms.
