Israel’s Largest Bank Prepares to Launch Cryptocurrency Trading With Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana—and XRP Coming Soon
Bank Leumi, Israel's premier financial institution, will become the first bank in the country to offer direct cryptocurrency trading to customers through a partnership with Galaxy Digital, launching in early 2027.
Israel’s Premier Bank Steps Into Digital Assets
Bank Leumi, Israel’s largest financial institution, has announced its entry into cryptocurrency services, positioning itself as the first bank in the nation to directly offer digital asset trading to its customer base. The strategic partnership with Galaxy Digital, a prominent institutional cryptocurrency infrastructure provider, will enable the bank to deliver cryptocurrency trading capabilities to millions of Israeli investors.
Gateway to Institutional-Grade Crypto Access
The collaboration harnesses GalaxyOne, Galaxy Digital’s institutional platform designed for banks, asset managers, and sophisticated investors to trade, finance, and stake digital assets. Bank Leumi customers, including users of its mobile banking application PEPPER, will access cryptocurrencies through a dedicated trading section within the Leumi Trade capital markets application. The platform launches in early 2027 and emphasizes regulatory compliance and security, offering Israeli investors a bank-sanctioned pathway to purchase, hold, and trade digital assets.
XRP Joins Bitcoin and Ethereum on the Platform
Bank Leumi’s initial cryptocurrency offerings encompass Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana. However, according to Bank Leumi’s announcement, as reported by U.Today, additional assets are planned—including XRP—underscoring management’s broader vision for crypto integration. The phased rollout reflects a measured approach that allows the bank to establish operational infrastructure while expanding its digital asset catalog as regulatory conditions and market dynamics permit.
This development reflects a global pattern wherein traditional financial institutions increasingly recognize digital assets as core to their competitive service offerings. Rather than developing proprietary systems, Bank Leumi’s reliance on Galaxy Digital’s established infrastructure demonstrates pragmatic execution. The arrangement also illustrates how institutional-grade platforms are becoming indispensable to legacy banks seeking seamless cryptocurrency integration.
For Israel’s banking sector, Bank Leumi’s move represents regulatory validation of cryptocurrencies as legitimate financial instruments. The inclusion of XRP alongside tier-one assets like Bitcoin and Ethereum on a major bank’s platform reinforces the token’s credibility as a serious digital asset worthy of institutional-grade custody and trading services.
Bank Leumi’s cryptocurrency initiative—particularly the inclusion of XRP—signals that established financial institutions view digital assets not as speculative experiments but as stable portfolio components, potentially unlocking significant capital inflows into crypto markets through traditional banking channels.
