Ripple and Coincheck Launch Major Custody Infrastructure Initiatives Across Asia
Blockchain and digital asset companies are accelerating institutional adoption in Asia with new custody and tokenized asset solutions.
Strategic Partnerships Accelerate Institutional Adoption
Ripple has entered into a strategic partnership with SettleMint, a blockchain enterprise solutions provider, to develop custody and tokenized asset management solutions tailored for Asian institutional participants. The collaboration integrates Ripple’s institutional digital asset custody infrastructure—Ripple Custody—with SettleMint’s Digital Asset Lifecycle Platform (DALP). These integrated tools aim to simplify how financial institutions can secure, issue, and manage tokenized assets throughout their complete lifecycle, addressing a long-standing pain point for regulated market participants.
Running parallel to this initiative, Coincheck Group, a major digital asset service provider, has partnered with DFNS, a wallet infrastructure specialist, to establish digital asset wallet technology and custody services in Japan. DFNS’s wallet-as-a-service offering equips institutions with comprehensive transaction lifecycle management, including workflow orchestration and governance controls, all consolidated within a single platform that supports more than 100 blockchain networks. This multi-chain capability is particularly valuable for institutions seeking exposure to diverse digital asset ecosystems without managing separate infrastructure.
Addressing the Institutional Infrastructure Gap
Both initiatives directly address a critical market bottleneck: the infrastructure limitations that have historically prevented regulated financial institutions from entering the digital asset space at scale. By streamlining custody solutions and providing institutional-grade security frameworks and governance controls, these partnerships aim to reduce operational friction and accelerate institutional adoption across the Asia-Pacific region.
The region’s market dynamics make these developments particularly significant. According to Chainalysis’ 2025 global adoption index, Asia-Pacific ranks as the fastest-growing area for onchain cryptocurrency activity, recording a 69% year-over-year increase in value received. This explosive growth reflects both retail demand and emerging institutional appetite for digital assets across the region, creating a substantial market opportunity for infrastructure providers.
Regulatory Clarity Fuels Market Confidence
The timing of these infrastructure developments aligns with significant regulatory progress in key Asian markets. Japan, already a major digital asset hub, has reinforced its market position through legislative action. The country’s parliament passed revisions in July that classify cryptocurrency assets as financial assets under Japan’s Financial Instruments and Exchange Act, bringing them into regulatory alignment with traditional financial instruments. This classification removes regulatory ambiguity that previously deterred institutional participation.
This legislative shift reflects Japan’s broader policy direction toward digitalization and financial innovation. Finance Minister Satsuki Katayama had signaled in January the government’s intention to incorporate crypto under the same regulatory framework as conventional financial assets, explicitly framing the move to ensure Japanese citizens can access and benefit from digital and blockchain-based assets. As other countries in the Asia-Pacific region develop their own cryptocurrency regulatory frameworks, Japan’s approach may serve as a template, potentially opening additional markets to institutional participation.
These infrastructure and regulatory developments position Asia-Pacific to capture significant institutional capital flows in the digital asset space, signaling potential for mainstream adoption of blockchain-based financial services across the region.
