Brandt Reignites XRP Criticism as Token Struggles Below $1

Veteran trader Peter Brandt has renewed his scathing commentary on XRP, dismissing the Ripple-linked token while voicing his preference for Bitcoin. The comments come as XRP faces mounting pressure to hold above the psychologically crucial $1 threshold.

A Renewed Dismissal

Veteran cryptocurrency trader Peter Brandt has resumed his longstanding campaign against XRP, this time responding dismissively to community members challenging him on the X social media platform. When questioned about his stance on the token, Brandt made his position abundantly clear: not only does he lack interest in accumulating XRP, but he would immediately liquidate any substantial holdings and redeploy the capital into Bitcoin instead. His remarks underscore a deeper skepticism about XRP’s utility and investment appeal compared to the flagship cryptocurrency.

Brandt emphasized that his trading focus centers on futures markets, where the fundamental characteristics of specific tokens matter less to his strategy. In his estimation, even a half-million token position holds little value if it cannot perform in his chosen trading vehicles. For him, Bitcoin remains the only digital asset worthy of holding.

Price Pressure and Lost Ground

Brandt’s renewed criticism arrives at a precarious moment for XRP. The token has been struggling to maintain its footing above the $1 mark, recently trading in the vicinity of $0.9992. This represents a dramatic erosion of value: XRP now sits approximately 72.6% below its all-time high of $3.65, reached in July 2025. The milestone breach of the $1 floor marks the first time since November 2024 that the token has traded at such depressed levels, signaling a reversal of the optimism that had buoyed it just months earlier.

Adding insult to injury, XRP’s market value has even fallen below that of RLUSD, the stablecoin launched by Ripple itself in late 2024. The irony is sharp: Ripple’s own stablecoin offering now commands more value than its flagship token.

A Critic Vindicated

Brandt’s latest commentary represents a return to form after a period of relative warmth toward XRP. Throughout much of the token’s history, he has been one of its most vocal detractors within the trading community. In recent years alone, he has compared XRP to the Edsel (referring to one of automotive history’s most notorious failures), described it as a “manipulated scam,” and suggested that its parent company functions as the token’s “bag holder.” His criticism has extended to the broader XRP community, which he has characterized using sharp language, calling them easily susceptible to manipulation and describing them as unprofessional.

However, in late 2024, an unusual shift occurred. Brandt acknowledged that XRP had cleared its 2023 resistance level and identified what he termed a “massive coil” formation—typically interpreted by traders as a precursor to significant price movement. This optimism proved short-lived. By March 2025, he had already begun forecasting trouble, warning that a bearish head-and-shoulders pattern could drive the price down to $1.07.

With XRP now trading right where Brandt warned, his March prediction appears prescient, likely vindicating his return to criticism of the asset. Brandt’s vindicated bearish forecast could intensify selling pressure on XRP at a psychologically critical price level.
