Nethermind, a prominent Ethereum engineering firm with deep expertise in client development, infrastructure, and protocol operations, has discontinued its participation in LayerZero’s Decentralized Verifier Network and redirected its cross-chain operations to Chainlink CCIP. The shift positions Nethermind as a Chainlink CCIP node operator, signaling a deliberate choice about how the firm approaches interoperability and cross-chain security.
While significant, this move should be understood in proper context. Nethermind’s decision does not indicate that LayerZero is failing, nor does it demonstrate that Chainlink has captured the entire market. Instead, it reflects one major infrastructure provider evaluating its options and choosing what it believes is a better alignment for its operations. In infrastructure decisions of this kind, market attention naturally follows because cross-chain security represents one of crypto’s most critical risk areas.
Cross-Chain Security and Trust Architecture
