World Liberty Financial Advances Stablecoin Integration With Major Merchant Partnership
WLFI and Mesh announce partnership to bring USD1 stablecoin payments to major online platforms, marking significant progress toward mainstream adoption.
World Liberty Financial executives have announced plans to substantially broaden access to USD1 stablecoin by integrating the digital currency into major online payment platforms, signaling a strategic shift toward mainstream adoption beyond cryptocurrency-native applications. According to World Liberty Financial, as reported by Cointelegraph, the Trump-backed venture revealed a partnership with payments infrastructure provider Mesh designed to facilitate widespread merchant acceptance of USD1 across Web2 platforms.
Expanding Payment Infrastructure Across Major Platforms
During a presentation at Token2049 in Singapore, WLFI CEO Zach Witkoff and co-founder Zak Folkman detailed the company’s vision for mainstream stablecoin adoption. Speaking alongside Mesh co-founder and CEO Bam Azizi on a stablecoin-focused industry panel, the executives outlined concrete steps to expand USD1’s utility beyond WLFI’s proprietary application. Azizi announced that Mesh’s partnership with WLFI would enable USD1 holders to spend their stablecoins across Mesh’s merchant payment network. The companies have targeted this quarter for the partnership’s rollout.
Folkman emphasized WLFI’s ambition to work with major established businesses, noting that the company is “already in plans to roll out this exact same technology to some of the largest Web2 businesses that are in the marketplace.” This expansion strategy reflects a deliberate effort to position USD1 as a practical payment method for online commerce rather than solely a cryptocurrency asset. The USD1 stablecoin, designed to maintain a value of $1, is currently issued by BitGo. The stablecoin’s reserves comprise cash, US government money market funds, and other cash equivalents, providing a foundation for its price stability. At the time of the Token2049 announcement, USD1 had achieved a market capitalization of $4.45 billion, demonstrating substantial adoption in the crypto ecosystem.
Regulatory Progress Supports Strategic Ambitions
WLFI’s expansion initiatives align with recent regulatory developments that enhance its operational capacity. In August, the U.S. Office of the Comptroller of the Currency granted WLFI conditional approval to establish a national trust bank. This regulatory milestone would enable WLFI to directly issue dollar-backed stablecoins and custody digital assets, reducing dependence on third-party issuers. Witkoff highlighted the significance of this approval, noting that while WLFI currently issues USD1 through BitGo, the trust charter “will be able to take on that responsibility ourselves.”
The OCC’s decision, however, has attracted political scrutiny. Senator Elizabeth Warren raised concerns about potential conflicts of interest related to the Trump family’s involvement with WLFI. Warren and other senators subsequently introduced the Ending Presidential Corruption in Banking Act in response. The OCC defended its review process, asserting that its staff acted consistently with statutory duties and ethical obligations during the application evaluation.
During the Token2049 panel, Witkoff characterized the conditional approval as an accomplishment WLFI had achieved “in spite of some of the attacks against us,” referencing sustained criticism from mainstream media and political opponents.
USD1’s integration into major payment platforms signals growing mainstream acceptance of stablecoins, a development that strengthens the entire cryptocurrency ecosystem.
