Bitcoin’s Performance Milestone Against Traditional Markets

Bitcoin has marked a significant recovery in its performance relative to the S&P 500, crossing back above the 50% win rate threshold on a per-session basis. According to data from onchain analytics firm Glassnode, the world’s largest cryptocurrency has now outperformed the traditional stock market index in exactly half of all US trading sessions over the most recent 90-session rolling measurement period. This achievement represents a substantial turnaround from the prolonged underperformance that characterized most of the past year.

Glassnode highlighted in its regular newsletter, The Week Onchain, that the win rate had not surpassed the 50% mark since March 2025, marking an extended period during which Bitcoin consistently lost more individual sessions than it won against equities. The latest reading thus represents a meaningful inflection point for the cryptocurrency’s relative valuation dynamics. Beyond merely matching the S&P 500 session by session, Bitcoin’s average gains per session have also proven marginally superior to those generated by the broad stock market index during the same period.

Election Results Create Favorable Historical Precedent for Markets

The recovery in Bitcoin’s competitive positioning against stocks has emerged against a backdrop of significant political developments. The recent US midterm elections resulted in substantial gains for Democratic candidates, who secured control of both chambers of Congress under the current Republican administration. This particular outcome carries significant importance when viewed through a historical lens.

According to analysis by Capriole Investments, a digital asset management firm, the S&P 500 has historically demonstrated strong performance following comparable electoral scenarios. Their research identified seven instances since 1922—excluding the current year’s election—in which Democrats achieved simultaneous control of both the House and Senate while a Republican president held the executive branch. The empirical record from these seven precedent cases reveals consistent market strength in subsequent periods.

Following these historical instances of Democratic Congressional sweeps under Republican presidents, the S&P 500 delivered average returns of 10.7% in the ensuing three-month period. The performance extended further out into six-month horizons, during which average gains expanded to 17.5%, while the 12-month forward returns averaged 15.5%. Capriole Investments founder Charles Edwards emphasized the favorable nature of the current electoral outcome for financial markets, noting its potential significance based on these historical precedents.

Crypto and Equities Demonstrate Synchronized Movement

The tightening relationship between Bitcoin and traditional equity markets has become quantifiably evident through correlation measurements. According to TradingView data, Bitcoin’s rolling 20-day correlation coefficient with the S&P 500 now registers at 0.63, indicating a robustly positive association that has persisted since the month of August. This convergence in market dynamics emerged during a period when both asset classes benefited from policy adjustments, specifically the US Treasury’s expanded debt buyback operations.

The broader digital asset ecosystem, including XRP, has participated in the current market rally. Synchronized gains across multiple cryptocurrencies demonstrate that positive market sentiment extends beyond Bitcoin alone. Bitcoin’s recovered competitive positioning against equities, paired with historically favorable post-election market patterns, suggests a potentially constructive environment for digital assets including XRP in the months ahead.
